Pirate Blackbeard's Cannon Found

Pirate Blackbeard's Cannon Found

Archaeologists have raised a 300 year-old cannon from the bottom of the ocean just off the coast of North Carolina. It is a cannon from the pirate Blackbeard’s ship. The length of the cannon is eight feet. It will take archaeologists and students at East Carolina University as many as eight years to crack through the sand/debris before getting to the actual metal cannon.

Blackbeard was a famous whose real name was Edward Teach. He was the captain of the Queen Anne’s Revenge, a captured French slave ship. In 1717, he successfully blockaded the harbor in Charleston, South Carolina, where he demanded money and goods from the townspeople. He used Ocracoke on the Outer Banks of North Carolina as his base of operations. It was there that he met his demise in 1718.

Blackbeard is likely to have grounded the ship on purpose before it sank, giving the pirate and his crew time to take away the valuable items. It is rumoured that Blackbeard has a hidden somewhere but the secret died with him.
